Huh... Thats Pretty Cool.

Well thats about it, congratulations! Who is ready to teach?!?! Just think after all those years doing undergrads, learning from so many professor's. It is our turn to give it a go, and see if we really do know best.

Firstly its been a relief to be instructed by teachers and educators. The last 24 days (give or take) have reaffirmed what I knew in February when I applied, I want to be a teacher. From the confusion and intrigue to the reflections and confusion we are still here and I hope my fellow classmates have come to the same realization.

On that note, I thought I would drop a few memorables of my first 5 weeks of being a member of the faculty of Education.

The Breakfast Club

I know it was drilled to death, but its crazy how much you can get out of a movie from the 80's. As a Sr Years teacher taking a look into the minds of the students of Shermer High proved to be a great window. It forced you to look back to high school and see which table you ate lunch at. However I will freely admit my favorite part of the exercise was sitting back and trying to figure out who was who based on their responses.

Creativity

Before classes started I discovered the Ted Talks series by Ken Robinson, it blew my mind they way he spoke about how as educators we were failing our students by not forcing them to look outside of their notes and into their minds or the minds of others. We needed to get back to the simplest ideas and allow the students to color outside of the lines, because who knows... maybe it will look better. It struck me that we no longer are able to look into the past to find the answer's for the future. I know this is a daunting challenge, but it is one that I freely accept.  Im proud to say that the Brandon University Faculty of Education supports these ideas! With that in mind, I figured out that I dont know a lot about, many subjects. So if anybody has an idea they would like to share message me  at Mr. Stubler's Room

Reflections

As you can see this is one big reflection. Reflect on who you were in high school. Reflect on who you favorite teachers were. Reflect on the reflection from the... we get it. Our experiences in the end are going to shape how we deal with the situations and students in the coming weeks and years. This is very important, as crazy as it sounds its not just the relationships we start to look at but I think a lot of the lessons we start to pull together are going to come from assignments we did in school. Lets hope for something more than note taking and power point

Organization

All I know is that my room at home may look like a bomb went off but there is no way my classroom will look that way.

Professional Development

Wow!! This deserve a blog post on its own (SPOILER!!), The two sessions I have been apart of were awesome! I attended TEACHING TO CHANGE THE WORLD (K-12) with Chris Brown and Marlene McKay, where we spoke about creating an anti-oppressive classroom - We are so much better off than people give the upcoming generation credit for, and WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT NONFICTION? (4-8) - Dont let the book read you! I cant wait for the next few.

So there is 5 weeksish. As Skinner might say,

"Have I wished you good luck yet?"

See you in November!
